Yeah…dude…the _only_ OS I’ve used where “everything actually worked” was Ubuntu Linux.

I’ve got Vista on my laptop and, in all honesty, it’s been running just fine for me apart from some “confusion” on the part of DirectX (to the point where Command & Conquer will run, but Solitaire has some problem with DirectX…I dunno…). Then again, I’ve got 3 GB of RAM and a 256 MB graphics card in there, so Vista _should_ work just fine.

At the moment, probably OS X (10.5 Leopard). Out of the big three (Windows, OS X, flavors of Linux) it has more advantages than shortcomings. XP is somewhat unstable and starting to show its age, and Linux still doesn’t feel quite ready for the mass market. I’ll note here that I haven’t used Linux for about 8 months now, so I am somewhat uninformed.

Leopard also has its flaws, of course, but they don’t grate on my nerves nearly as much as Vista, for instance. Perhaps Windows 7 will be better? We won’t know for at least 2 or 3 years.
