I loathe thee, Vista
June 26th, 2008Okay, listen: I tried to give Vista a chance, I really did. And if you think about it, it’s not even really Vista’s fault (although maybe it is…) that I plan on going back to XP. Mostly I blame Creative, who can’t seem to get their act together to release a decent set of sound card drivers. I ended up tracking down a set of “unofficial” drivers provided by daniel_k which gave me much better results, but still not perfect.
Time to head back to the OS where everything actually worked.

Wait a second. Did I just hear you refer to XP as “top OS where everything actually worked…”?
That’s a sick joke, man.

I would never call XP the “top” OS. For a second you made me think I had made a typo.

What would you call the “top” OS?

@Alisa:
At the moment, probably OS X (10.5 Leopard). Out of the big three (Windows, OS X, flavors of Linux) it has more advantages than shortcomings. XP is somewhat unstable and starting to show its age, and Linux still doesn’t feel quite ready for the mass market. I’ll note here that I haven’t used Linux for about 8 months now, so I am somewhat uninformed.
Leopard also has its flaws, of course, but they don’t grate on my nerves nearly as much as Vista, for instance. Perhaps Windows 7 will be better? We won’t know for at least 2 or 3 years.

Yeah…dude…the _only_ OS I’ve used where “everything actually worked” was Ubuntu Linux.
I’ve got Vista on my laptop and, in all honesty, it’s been running just fine for me apart from some “confusion” on the part of DirectX (to the point where Command & Conquer will run, but Solitaire has some problem with DirectX…I dunno…). Then again, I’ve got 3 GB of RAM and a 256 MB graphics card in there, so Vista _should_ work just fine.

It doesn’t run Solitaire? Sounds like a winner in my book.
