An overture of furniture

May 28th, 2008

With the promise of a new apartment looming on the horizon, Jill and I have been whipped into a furniture-buying frenzy. Neither of us have much actual furniture, so we’re essentially furnishing most of the new apartment from scratch. Some things we have acquired thus far:

  • Reclining black leather sofa
  • Dining room table with stools
  • Glass and black metal TV stand

We’re going to make a trip up to at least one of the Illinois IKEAs this weekend, and maybe both depending on if all of our items are in stock at the one in Schaumburg. Things that we will likely purchase at IKEA:

  • Bed frame
  • Headboard with hidden storage shelves
  • Coffee table
  • Dresser

Luckily Jill’s parents offered to pick up the IKEA tab, which will be incredibly helpful when you factor in all the other costs of moving. A big thank you to them, and hopefully I’ll be able to post some pictures when the time comes!

Dining room looks more attractive if it’s decorated with beautiful accessories. You can use countless accessories in your Dining Hall to attract your guests like wine bottle holder, fruit stand, wine rack, light holders etc. You can buy all these from [redacted] online store. At first I wasn’t sure if the first comment was spam, shameless self-promotion, or just a lady who is really excited about furniture. When I saw the second one it became a bit more clear. I’ve decided to leave both comments because I find the line “Buying beautiful soft furnishings for home would be the dream of every woman” quite hilarious.

I have, however, removed the link to the website.

Oh how satisfying. A brand new post with a promise of photos and a really funny comments section. On top of that I read it here in the Columbia, MO Public Library because I myself just moved and have, as of yet, no internet.

Rachel and I would also have no furniture, if it were not for the wood working talents of her father. He crafted us a coffee table, entertainment center, end table, china cabinet (for rachel’s precious moments thingys) and trunk for the end of the bed. They have also promised a couch, and furnished us with a bed and a guest bed and dressers and what not. I took the table from the old house and cleaned it up, sanded off the finish, and gave it a new one. Now I have to do this with the chairs and all will be well.

A question- you say you have a dinning room table and stools. By stools, do you mean just like normal chairs or like bar stools, or did you just defecate everywhere?

  7. Kai Schaller Says:

@Nathan - Normally I am against any kind of elevated stool (as in bar stool) for extended sitting, as they can quickly become uncomfortable. However, Jill managed to find some stools, meaning they are taller than normal chairs and do not have backs, that are surprisingly comfortable.

Awesome that you live in Columbia now, I’ll have to come visit sometime. Only 1.5 hours away!
