Finding my niche

My first day of work at Paradigm New Media Group (hereafter referred to as PNMG) is behind me, and I’m very happy to say that it’s everything I wanted it to be. An open, creative, fun work environment with friendly, entertaining and like-minded people makes a world of difference.

Also, I have a new theory: you can tell a lot about a company by how they name their servers. Examples:

  • Truman State University names their servers after elements and precious metals (hydrogen, silver, etc.)
  • My previous, cubicle-rich employer picked seemingly arbitrary letter and number combinations (QXL87, etc.)
  • PNMG uses comic book characters.

You tell me who you’d rather work for.

Lol. That’s an awesome way of looking at things. The media company that I work for (not gonna link it… the website is embarrassingly 1997 looking) names their servers practically–– Production, Wildcat, Adds. That’s a straightforward journalistic way of things for ya.

Three years into the future, at an interview after I’ve got a degree:

Them: That’s all the questions we have for you, would you like to ask us anything?
Me: Uhh, yeah. What are the names of your servers?

Awesome, I hope it comes in handy! :-)

I wish I could have given more specific examples of PNMG’s server names, but it’s probably not a great idea to start revealing internal information for all the world to see.
