College is almost over

December 3rd, 2007

I’ve recently been giving some thought to creating a separate site for a freelance web development business. It’d be nice to keep this domain at a more personal level (although I try to keep it fairly professional and relevant without veering off into MySpace-esque blathering) while having a separate site to give out to potential clients and the like.

But I’ll have to think of a name, first.

It’s the last week of college for me, and I graduate in 12 days. It’s difficult to find the motivation to keep going to class when I’d rather be doing other things like getting my move to St. Louis figured out, cleaning the apartment, etc. I’m taking some more things down to St. Louis on Tuesday, and possibly over the weekend as well. There may also be one more trip to St. Joseph in the cards, depending on how much stuff I find that needs to be taken care of. Either way, things will be hectic at the same time they are winding down.

But perhaps most importantly of all, my Aeron chair has been delivered and I’ve ordered the 24″ iMac. December 15th will truly be a good day.

    So, three things:

    1). Congrats on graduation, yo… It’ll take some getting used to, but there’s always a time to move on. Hope you’re ready!

    2). “Freelance web development business”… How much freelancing have you done so far? How do you advertise such things to get your name out there? Have you thought all this through, or just wanna dip your toes in the water?

    3). Where in “St. Louis” are you moving to, for what reason, and when are you dropping off your new iMac so I can play with it? ;-)

    Aeron chair? Wow, badass. Where’d you buy it and for how much? We bought new ones for our office from OfficeDesigns (http://www.officedesigns.com). I love my Aeron!

    @Andy:
    1. I’ve been doing freelance work for a few years. A lot of advertising seems to be done by word-of-mouth — do a good job on a few sites and you’ll start getting tons of potential clients contacting you.

    2. I’ll be living in Eureka for a couple of months or so, then moving elsewhere, depending on where my job is. I’ll be opening the iMac box on the 15th, and you are of course welcome to come play with it.

    @Jacob:
    I bought my Aeron from a place called Design Within Reach; specifically at one of their retail stores in St. Louis. They were having a 10% off sale on Herman Miller products that week, so total cost was just below $1,000 after shipping and tax. I can’t wait to sit in it!
