Thank you for the clarification. Because lately I've been hearing people throw around the word Intranet in place of Internet. I think they're trying to sound smart. But it wasn't working all that well.

The Internet (the capital 'I' being important) is the set of interconnected documents stored on servers around the world that we think of as websites, etcetera, whereas an internet (with a lowercase 'i') can refer to any interconnected network, usually using the TCP/IP protocol for communication.

An intranet, on the other hand, is a network that is restricted in some way so that only certain users may access it. Intranets are usually found within companies for internal use.

In my opinion there is no such thing as THE Intranet in the same way that there is THE Internet, and the terms are not interchangeable.

Looks like I learned something in college after all ;-)

Oh question:

What's the difference between the Internet and an Intranet?

Could "The Internet" be correctly called "The Intranet"?

If Web 3.0 is

10 megabits of bandwidth all the time, which will be the full video Web

then Web 4.0 is when I'm getting all of that for free from Google. At least that better be what Web 4.0 means.
